Keeper’s Creepers takes its evocative name from a distinctive growth characteristic: particularly aggressive rhizomorphic mycelium that advances across substrates in thick, rope-like strands rather than the finer, more diffuse tomentose growth seen in some cubensis strains. The term “creepers” refers to this spreading habit, while “keeper’s” suggests a strain worth keeping in one’s collection. The precise origin and developer are not well-documented in published literature, but the strain has circulated in the mycological community long enough to establish a consistent reputation.

Spore Examination

Under the microscope, Keeper’s Creepers spores fit comfortably within Psilocybe cubensis norms, subellipsoid, 11 - 14 × 7 - 9 micrometers, smooth-walled, with a visible germ pore. Print color is dark purple-brown with good density. The consistency of spore morphology from print to print is notable; this is a genetically stable isolate that does not produce the occasional size outliers seen in less-stabilized strains. Growth and Form

Beyond the signature rhizomorphic mycelium, Keeper’s Creepers produces medium-sized fruiting bodies with convex to plane caps in the 30 - 50 mm range. Cap coloration is a classic golden-brown with lighter margins. Stipes are moderately thick, white, and display standard blue-green bruising. The veil is membranous and typically leaves a clean annulus. Colonization speed is above average, unsurprising given the aggressive mycelial character that defines the strain. Fruiting temperatures of 23 - 26°C on standard grain or manure-based substrates produce reliable results.
